The level of umpiring in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been under scrutiny right from the start of the tournament. There have been so many decisions that have raised eyebrows. Be it Rohit Sharma’s LBW dismissal against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) or Virat Kohli’s LBW dismissal against Mumbai Indians, many such decisions have been made this season.

Another one got added to the list in the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT). Matthew Wade’s LBW dismissal given by the third umpire also raised a lot of questions on the use of technology as well as the decision made by the umpires.

In the sixth over of GT innings, Glenn Maxwell bowled a straight delivery which Wade missed to middle it. The ball also hit the pad and resultantly the batter was adjudged out by the on-field umpire. Wade, however, believed there was an inside edge and asked for a referral. The replays were shown and interestingly Wade had edged the ball. However, there was nothing on the Ultra edge and hence the third umpire upheld the on-field decision and Wade was eventually given out.

And quite obviously, Wade looked utterly disappointed and frustrated. The batter was also seen living inside the dressing room. Wade threw his helmet and also broke his bat in anger.

Kohli consoles Wade!

Virat Kohli, who himself has been a victim of ordinary umpiring, came to console Mattew Wade. As Kohli was walking back to the pavilion, Kohli walked up to him and put his hand around Wade's shoulders. Meanwhile, Wade was seen making animated gestures.
