The Argentinean
team progressed to the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup 2022 after beating the
Netherlands. The match went down to the wire with both teams scoring two goals
each until extra time. In the penalty shootouts, Argentina prevailed over the
Dutch team with a score line of 4-3.
The
legendary Lionel Messi set up the goal for Nahuel Molina in the first half. Then,
he converted the penalty in the 73rd minute. Interestingly, his celebration
was pointed at Netherlands coach Louis Van Gaal. This was due to the pre-match
interviews witnessing Van Gaal revealing his desire to take revenge for the semi-final
loss in the 2014 World Cup.
Furthermore,
he doubted the ability of Argentina and Messi leading up to the fixture and was
confident of the Dutch had an upper hand. He stated that Messi does not participate
much when the opposition has possession of the ball.
After Argentina secured a victory, Messi lashed out at striker Wout Weghorst for provoking his teammates and disrespecting them.
“What are
you looking at, fool? What are you looking at?," Messi said to Weghorst.
In a viral video doing rounds on Twitter, Messi' brother and wife Antonela Roccuzzo enacted the same dialogue while returning from the stadium after the game.
“Go there,”
says Messi’s brother, laughing with Antonella, who imitates her husband. “What
are you looking at, fool? What are you looking at?” she said.
Argentina
will clash with Croatia in the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup 2022 on Wednesday
(December 14).
