The fifth rescheduled Test of the Pataudi Trophy between England and India is underway at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham. Jasprit Bumrah-led India have gained an upper hand in the series decider as they have kept the hosts at bay on most occasions. Even after being reduced to 98/5, India posted 416 in their first innings.

India have Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah to thank for the assertion they have shown in this Test so far. While Pant and Jadeja showed resilience with the bat, captain Jasprit Bumrah did the job with both bat and ball. After scoring a record-breaking 31* with the bat, Bumrah got rid of the top three England batters to keep India on the front foot.

Captain Bumrah got rid of Alex Lees, Zak Crawley, and Ollie Pope to keep the opposition in check. But it was Mohammed Siraj’s lethal delivery to Joe Root that ensured India stay atop England in the series decider. The right-arm quick bowled a really venomous delivery to the former England captain to send him back to the pavilion.

Bowling the 23rd over for India, Siraj bowled consistently to Root and kept the opposition’s batter in check. Siraj continued hitting the good length and kept Joe Root in check all the while. On the last ball of the over, the right-arm quick bowled a short of a length delivery that kept jagging back at Root and never allowed the former England captain to play a shot. Root could only manage a thick edge that flew to Pant for an easy catch.

With this wicket of Root, India gained firm control over England. Shortly after Siraj dismissed Root, Mohammed Shami got rid of Jack Leach who was sent to support Jonny Bairstow in the middle. The right-arm quick got rid of Leach with a typical Test-match length. Shami finally got his share of luck in the wickets column for what has been technically been a non-stop spell of 13 overs.
