Neeraj Chopra etched his name in the history books as he produced one of the most memorable moments of Indian sports at Tokyo 2020. The 23-year-old stunned everyone in the finals of men's javelin throw event to clinch India's first gold medal at the ongoing Games. Neeraj started the finals on front foot as his 87.03m effort put the pressure back on all the 11 other finalists.

Neeraj was at top of the standings after the end of first round of attempts. However, the Indian athlete was in no mood to stop as he produced an outrageous 87.58m throw in the second attempt, which was eventually enough to secure a gold medal for him and India.

The top three in the finals of men's javelin throw event were as follows:

Gold Medal: Neeraj Chopra (India) - 87.58m

Silver Medal: Jakub Vadlejch (Czech Republic) – 86.67m
