The game of cricket continues to capture the imagination of fans worldwide simply because of its uncertainty and what that brings to the table. Just when fans feel they have seen it all on the cricket field, something happens which helps them question their notion. During the first Super 12 match between South Africa and Australia at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Quinton de Kock became a victim of a bizarre dismissal.

While Australia captain Aaron Finch won the toss and opted to field first, it looked like South Africa will make the most of the opportunity to bat first when Proteas captain Temba Bavuma scored 11 runs off the first over bowled by Mitchell Starc. However, South Africa's joy did not last long. While Bavuma departed in the next over itself, Rassie van der Dussen, the centurion in their last warm-up match against Pakistan departed in the next over.

To make matters worse, De Kock also went back in a strange way in the first ball of the 5th over of the innings being bowled by Josh Hazelwood. While the left-handed batter had moved across outside off stump to scoop the ball on the leg side- a shot which the Protean batter likes to play especially in short-form cricket, he played it straight onto his thigh pad.

He then seemingly lost sight of the ball as it bounced into the crease and then went on to hit the stumps. While the Mumbai Indians star could have easily stopped the ball from dislodging the bails, he was clueless about what was happening and even for a brief moment attempted to go for a run, instead.
