After winning the toss, Sri Lanka elected to field first and restricted Team India to 173 runs as they picked four wickets in the last three overs. However, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant's reaction to team management picking up all-rounder Hardik Pandya to bat ahead of him has gone viral.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma played a ferocious knock of 72 runs in 41 balls as Sri Lanka bowlers dismissed KL Rahul and Virat Kohli in the starting three overs.
In a viral video, Rishabh Pant looked disheartened when Hardik Pandya was asked to bat up the order replacing the wicketkeeper. India lost two early wickets and the third wicket of Rohit Sharma in the 13th over forced Team India to send Pandya ahead of Pant, considering his good form.

However, both Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant pulled off an identical score of 17 runs in 13 balls and departed on the third delivery of the 18th and the 19th over respectively. A decent knock of 34 runs off 29 balls by Suryakumar Yadav helped India to take their score to a reputable total against Sri Lanka in the Super Four fixture of Asia Cup 2022.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who replaced Ravi Bishnoi in the Indian squad, played a cameo in the Indian innings and smashed 15 runs off 7 balls. Sri Lanka are required to chase a target of 174 runs in a must-win game for India.
