Indian cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar spoke about how he had never seen his son Arjun Tendulkar play in person in a competitive match before his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians. The 23-year-old made his maiden appearance against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium, where the five-time champions registered a comfortable five-wicket win.

Arjun Tendulkar started off the MI innings with the ball and delivered two solid overs giving away 17 runs with an economy of 8.50. After the match, in an interview shared on the official IPL Twitter page, where Sachin revealed watching his son play was a new experience. He also spoke about how he was away from Arjun ahead of the MI v KKR game and caught the first glimpse of him on the mega screen.

Sachin Tendulkar said, “This was a new experience for me. Till now, I have not actually gone and watched him play. I just wanted him to have that freedom to go out and express himself whatever he wanted to do. And today also I sat in the dressing room because I didn’t want him to let him move away from his plans and start looking at the mega screen here and suddenly realised that I was watching there. I was inside,” he said.

Reacting to the debut, Arjun described it as a special moment as Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai Indians and Indian national team captain present him with the cap. “It was a great moment, special to play for them I have supported since 2008, and it was very nice to get the cap from the captain of the MI and the Indian team,” said Arjun.
