During the highly pulsating ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2024 final, the Indian spin bowler Saumy Pandey collided with Oliver Peake of Australia at the non-striker’s end after picking up a key wicket. At the Willowmoore Park in Benoni, the defending champions India are eyeing their sixth U-19 CWC title at the expense of the former three-time champions Australia.
The incident involving Saumy Pandey and Oliver Peake happened in the 38th over of the Australian innings when the scorecard read 181-4. The left-handed batter Harjas Singh tried to play a sweep-swipe across the line off a quicker delivery from the left-arm spinner, but he missed it completely.
The Indian players appealed to the umpire, who raised his finger in a jiffy to send Harjas Singh back to the pavilion. It led to Saumy Pandey running towards his left in celebration, but since he didn’t realise that Oliver Peake was standing nearby at the non-striker’s end, he had a collision with him instead.
