Scott Boland, one of the premier fast bowlers of Australia, has shattered the stumps of Shubman Gill for 13 during the second session on Day 2 of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023 at The Oval in London. With this massive wicket, India were reduced to 30-2 in the seventh over of their first innings. Also, in the previous over, the Australian captain Pat Cummins had dismissed his opposing counterpart Rohit Sharma leg-before wicket for 15.

It was the fourth ball of the seventh over from Scott Boland, bowled from wide of the stumps, angled towards the corridor of uncertainty. Shubman Gill wasn’t sure about his off stump and left the ball alone thinking that it would go harmlessly through to the keeper. But unfortunately for him, it cannoned into the off stump to his absolute shock.

With both the openers back in the pavilion, India are staring down the barrel in response to a massive first innings total set by Australia, in excess of 450. Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli, two of the quality batters for Team India, took the side through to the tea on day 2 without letting the Aussies make further inroads.

Meanwhile, earlier in the second session of day 2, Australia were bowled out for 469 in 121.3 overs. The star of the show with the bat were Travis Head and Steve Smith, who put together a huge partnership of 285 runs for the fifth wicket. Head top scored for Australians with a swashbuckling 163 off 174, which included 25 fours and one six. On the other side, Steve Smith batted long hours to score 121 runs off 264 runs, including 19 fours.
