Following the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship win for Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40 Sunday, Seth Rollins was overcome with emotion at ringside, tearing up at the sight of his friend finally dethroning Roman Reigns off his perch. During the WrestleMania 40 build-up, Rollins had told Rhodes about becoming his shield against the Bloodline, and he lived up to his word.

In the main event of WrestleMania 40 Saturday, Seth Rollins had teamed up with Cody Rhodes to take on The Rock and Roman Reigns, with a lot at stake for the next night. But despite their best efforts, The Rock pinned Cody Rhodes in the middle of the ring, to ensure that the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match the next night got contested under the Bloodline rules, where anything goes.

Amidst all the chaos during the main event of WrestleMania 40 Sunday, Seth Rollins made an appearance in the Shield gear, wielding a chair in hand, but he was stopped in his tracks by Roman Reigns with a Superman punch. In the closing stages of the match, when Reigns had Rhodes and Rollins trying to get to their feet on either side of the ring, he chose to attack his former Shield brethren, smashing a chair in his back, an ultimate payback for breaking their group years ago.

Ultimately, it came down to Cody Rhodes finding Roman Reigns alone and vulnerable without any help from the Bloodline. The American Nightmare took advantage of the situation, hitting the Tribal Chief with three straight Cross Rhodes, to put an end to his 1,316-day Undisputed WWE Universal Championship reign, and finishing his story.

It led to the celebrations beginning for Cody Rhodes inside the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, with his mother, extended family, and plethora of babyfaces joining him inside the ring. Seth Rollins, who was unable to enter the squared circle due to his back injury, was spotted overcome with emotion at ringside before he shook the hand of Cody Rhodes, while being helped around by the likes of Sami Zayn, Jey Uso, and Kevin Owens.

Moreover, earlier in the evening at WrestleMania 40 Sunday, Seth Rollins had lost his World Heavyweight Championship to Drew McIntrye.
