In the first match of double-header Saturday in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are hosting the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. However, both teams are coming into this fixture with a win in their respective last matches, it is set to offer a neck-and-neck battle between the two newest entrants in the tournament.
For the unversed, Rishabh Pant-led LSG won the toss and elected to field first. Thus inviting GT to bat first, Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill stitched a 120-run partnership for the opening wicket, adding majority of runs for the side. However, none of the other batters helped to make an impact, a blinder from Shardul Thakur ended Jos Buttler’s short stay in the middle.
Thakur’s blinder ends Buttler’s stay; lets Digvesh Rathi celebrate in style
Digvesh Rathi, who walked out to bowl his final over of the day, got the prized wicket of Jos Buttler on the fourth delivery of his over. Rathi gave an extra bounce which let Buttler get a top-edge while hoping to go for a sweep. As the ball swirled away from Shardul Thakur, he kept his eyes on the ball and went for a full dive to get the big wicket.
Shardul Thakur’s effort gave Digvesh Rathi a moment to celebrate as he once again pulled off his celebration, putting it down on the ground. It is to be noted that Rathi’s celebration caught the attention when he first did it after picking Priyansh Arya’s wicket in match against PBKS. He continued to do the same, but turned his notebook celebration to the ground after sending his idol Sunil Narine in KKR vs LSG fixture.
With a solitary wicket to his bag in the match against GT, Digvesh Rathi finished with the figures of 1/30, whereas Shardul Thakur ended with figures of 2/34.
