The Match 30 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 ended in a thrilling fashion, with Rajasthan Royals (RR) securing victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by seven runs. The leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took a hat-trick and was named player of the match for his figures of 5/40 off four overs.

This was the 21st hat-trick in the tournament’s history and the fifth by a Rajasthan Royals bowler after Ajit Chandila, Pravin Tambe, Shane Watson, and Shreyas Gopal. It all happened in the 17th over of the KKR innings, and they needed 40 off four overs.

In the first ball of the over, Venkatesh Iyer was stumped. But to everyone’s surprise, Sheldon Jackson arrived at the crease. He then played a dot ball and took a single in the next one. In the fourth ball of the over, Shreyas Iyer was dismissed Leg Before wicket (LBW), which was a turning point in the game. The head coach Brendon McCullum then sent the bowler Shivam Mavi ahead of Pat Cummins, who has been striking quite well and had scored 56* off 15 balls against Mumbai Indians(MI).

After getting dismissed and making his way back to the dressing room, Shreyas Iyer was furious about the decisions made by the head coach and hurled words at him in an angry manner. With his gestures, it is most likely that he questioned the tactics of the support staff to promote Jackson and Mavi up the batting order ahead of Cummins.

In the last two balls of Chahal’s over, Shivam Mavi got holed out in the long-on, and Cummins was caught behind by Sanju Samson. Although Umesh Yadav provided lusty blows in the end, it was not enough as the team fell short by seven runs.

From the Royals, Jos Buttler scored 103 off 61, while Shreyas Iyer fought hard for KKR with a knock of 85 off 51.
