Indian top-order batter Shubman Gill pulled off a spectacular catch to dismiss England opener Ben Duckett in the final Test of the five-match series. Playing at the scenic HPCA stad ium in Dharamsala, England won the toss and chose bat first. But from the word go, India's fast bowling pair of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj swung and seamed the ball, all around the English openers.
But this firey spell with some magical deliveries didn't result in any wickets until left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav turned up. Duckett, who wasn't allowed to play in his usual aggressive fashion, grew frustrated as dot balls piled up.
Shubman Gill pulls off stunning catch to dismiss Duckett
After facing R Ashwin, Duckett took on Yadav and even managed to find a boundary on the fourth delivery. But then on the last ball of the over, the English opener managed to get a thick top edge into the air on the off-side. Spotting the ball, Gill, running sideways to his right from cover, put in a perfectly timed dive to complete a stellar catch.
He’s someone who is always wanting to improve: Gill on R Ashwin
Ahead of this Test match, Gill had some praiseful words for R Ashwin, who played his 100th Test in Dharamsala. The 24-year-old shared how Ashwin taught him that one should always optimise their skill set as they go through their career.
While speaking to Jio Cinema, Gill said, “He is a terrific, terrific bowler and more importantly, he’s someone who is always wanting to improve and add new skills in his game be it batting or bowling. That’s one thing I have learned from him that even though you have played for India for so many years, you still want to add something new to your game and make a difference to your skill sets. That’s why he’s one of the best spinners that the world has ever seen.”
