It is still a fairly young international career for Shubman Gill. While he has had his highs, he has seen some lows already. The promising right-handed batter however seems to be having a problem with the ball swinging in which has been exposed time and again. In his most recent outing against New Zealand at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, Shubman was looking in great nick and had completed his half-century, albeit fortune favouring him, but the same old in-ducker problem got the better of the 22-year-old in the first over after lunch.
The ball was pitched full on a good length outside off, nipped back a little bit after it pitched and went through the gap between the bat and pad to disturb the stumps. Although it was a superb delivery from Kyle Jamieson no doubt, he also seemed to have taken a leaf out of the veteran English pacer James Anderson who had bowled a similar delivery to get rid of Shubman in the Chennai Test played earlier this year.
On both occasions, Gill was caught in an awkward position where his foot had not gone fully forward to play the stroke. The dismissal of Gill in that Chennai Test was also the same as it came from a right arm pacer bowling over the wicket getting to nip back into the right-handed batter. Shubman's departure in that game was a huge turning point and India had lost that Test and the Kiwis would be looking to achieve the same result.

Kyle Jamieson and Tim Southee have been the two wicket-takers for New Zealand so far but in a big blow to the Kiwi side, Southee had some discomfort after which he left the field midway during his over.
For now, a lot depends on the partnership between debutant Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja who will be eyeing to take India to as big a score as possible given the history of the venue which suggests it could get lower and slower in the second innings.
