The former Pakistan cricketer Sikander Bakht has sparked a conspiracy theory around the coin-tossing technique of Rohit Sharma, the captain of Team India, during their unbeaten campaign in the ODI World Cup 2023 so far. The 66-year-old spoke about how he throws the coin far away from the advertisement mat, while comparing it with the other captains who spin the coin nearby, compiling it in a video package to drive home his point.

The comments from Sikander Bakht came before the toss went down at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday, November 15, before the first CWC 2023 semi-final began. In response to the massive first innings total of 397/4 from the Indian cricket team, New Zealand were bowled out for 327 within 49 overs, bowing out of the flagship tournament.

While speaking on a Pakistani channel named Geo News, Sikander Bakht said, “Ek shararat kar sakta hoon? Conspiracy. Mai ek sawal kar raha hoon agar hum dikha sake toss ke waqt. Rohit Sharma jab toss karte hai vo dur fenkte hai aur dusra captain jaa ke kabhi nahi dekhta ki vo sahi usne call kiya (Can I do a bit of mischief? Conspiracy. I am asking a question if we can show it before the toss. When Rohit Sharma tosses the coin, he throws it far away, and the other captain doesn’t go to see if he has called it right).”

Notably, in the recent past, another former Pakistan cricketer Hasan Raza made controversial comments about the Indian cricket team taking part in the ODI World Cup 2023. He spoke about how the Indian bowlers are getting “different and suspicious balls,” which has aided them in becoming successful in the flagship tournament in the last month or so.
