Amidst backlash about Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales kissing Spain’s Jenni Hermoso on the lips during the FIFA Women’s World Cup medal ceremony, the Spanish head coach Jorge Vilda has involved himself in a new controversy. In a video making the rounds of the internet, La Roja is seen inappropriately touching a female staff member’s breast.

The incident occurred after Spain captain Olga Carmona scored La Roja’s opening goal in the 29th minute. As celebrations broke out in the Spanish dugout, Vilda is seemingly seen touching a female staff member’s breast with his left hand. The former Real Madrid player has marred with controversies throughout his managerial stint with the Spanish women’s team.

There has been friction between some members of the Spanish national team and Vilda as he reportedly imposed a rule until 2019 that didn’t permit players to lock their hotel rooms until midnight while on international duty. Around 15 players protested and demanded his sacking which led Vilda to sideling these players. In the recently concluded World Cup, only three out of these 15 players made the squad.

Coming back to the Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales’s controversy, on August 23, the acting prime minister, Pedro Sánchez described Rubiales’s gesture as depicting that Spain still needs a lot of work on equality and women’s rights. “What we saw was an unacceptable gesture,” he told reporters. “And the apologies he has given are not enough, I believe they are not adequate. He needs to continue to take steps to clarify what we all saw.”
