The Indian Super League 2022-23 runner-ups Bengaluru FC donated their ‘Champions 2023’ t-shirts to underprivileged communities. The Blues suffered a heartbreaking loss in the recent ISL final against Mohan Bagan at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Margao, Goa.

Both teams were level at 2-2 after the end of the regulation time before the Mariners clinched the win with a 4-3 margin in the penalty shootout. But despite the result, Bengaluru FC had printed out their winners' t-shirts, and have decided to now distribute these clothes to the underprivileged communities in Bengaluru instead of throwing them.

These donations were made to children at a community shelter in Jayanagar and players like club captain Sunil Chhetri, goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and Suresh Wangjam were present at the drive. In the coming week, other players and club staff from Bengaluru FC will also be donating these t-shirts to old-age homes, orphanages, and hospitals.

Talking about this initiative, Sunil Chhetri spoke about how this is the first time he has done something like this. He further expressed that he is extremely proud of the club to take these steps and help someone who would use these clothes.

He said, “It certainly is the first time in my career that this is happening, and I’m not sure if a club has ever done it before. I’m proud that we’ve taken this step because we want to break the chain. Just because you lose doesn’t mean you have to discard something you made thinking you’re going to be champions; especially when it can be of use to someone else.”
