Forme r India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star player Suresh Raina in his latest interview with Lallantop, minced no words as he called out Mumbai Indians’ decision to sack Rohit Sharma as MI captain. Ahead of the IPL 2024 player auction, MI made a major call to remove Rohit Sharma from the helm and announced Hardik Pandya as their skipper for the 2024 edition.

However, this decision did not go well with a lot of members, including Rohit Sharma’ s wife Ritika Sajdeh, who dropped a shocking remark on Mark Boucher’s podcast. But the latest to speak on this, is the former batter Suresh Raina. While he admitted fans’ anger is understood, he urged them to not involve Hardik Pandya’s family in the matter.

“I don’t know why he was removed as captain. But, MI are now doing well, they won their last match,” Raina said in his interview on Lallantop. “To be very honest, I feel Rohit should’ve remained as Mumbai Indians captain. But I think, the management is looking to have a leader who is younger. Rohit, I think is now 36 or 37,” Raina said.

The 37-year-old also feels that Hardik Pandya could be removed as MI captain if the team continues to move in the downward spiral.

This is not right: Suresh Raina on fans booing Hardik Pandya

The former Indian cricketer feels that the decision of fans booing Hardik Pandya in the ongoing IPL 2024 is “not right”. Speaking in an interview with Lallantop, Raina said, “This is not right. Saying such thing about him, his family isn’t correct. But you can’t do much, everyone has the right to say thing. You have to learn to avoid it.”

On being asked how is someone not right to lead the franchise despite being the Indian captain, Raina said, “I agree, that is what even I asked. I am not sure what the management thought. This is still the start of the IPL. Only time will tell if this decision was right or not. If MI fail in 3-4 more matches, Rohit could be re-appointed as captain.”

The Hardik Pandya-led MI are placed sixth in the IPL 2024 points table with three wins from seven games.
