Although young chinaman bowler Syed Faridoun made his debut in the Big Bash League playing for the Melbourne Stars on Sunday, there was more news revolving around his bowling action rather than him. Although Faridoun has been bowling with the same old action from which he has bowled throughout his career, this was one of the first times that the world took notice of his unique action.
The 20-year-old bowling run-up and release was compared to South Africa's Paul Adams and even Gujarat Lions' Shivil Kaushik who made a mark in the Indian Premier League before going off the radar. Although there was a lot of talk about the action and he even had a rather good start to his career, giving away only five runs in his first over, eventually he returned wicketless and conceded 37 runs in his 4 overs.
A small clipping of his action was even shared by the Big Bash League's official social media handle.

It is worth highlighting that Faridoun was unearthed by the talent scouts after he sent a video of his own bowling to the Lahore Qalandars when the entire world was battling COVID-19 and there were lockdowns all over the place. While he did feature in the age-group cricket matches at the city level earlier, he was not given a game in season 5 of the Pakistan Super League and even in the latter half of the subsequent season.
Earlier, Pakistan's Haris Rauf and Dilbar Hussein have already played for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League. However, it wasn't the ideal start to the tournament for the Stars as they succumbed to an embarrassing defeat in their opening game.
Stars won the toss and that was all that they won in the match since only did Sydney Sixers score their highest total at the Sydney Cricket Ground but later bundled out the opposition for 61 to hand a 152-run win humiliating defeat to the Stars.
