Neeraj Chopra created history on Saturday as he stunned everyone to clinch a famous gold medal in men's javelin throw at Tokyo 2020. It was supposed to be the last event for India at the ongoing Summer Games and it was indeed a fairy-tale ending for the nation as the 23-year-old athlete became only the second-ever Indian to clinch a gold medal in Olympics after Abhinav Bindra (10-meter air rifle event - Beijing 2008).
The Indian athlete certainly rose to the occasion on Saturday as he started the finals with a mind-boggling 87.03m throw to go to first position. Although that would have been enough to secure a gold medal for him, he completely finished the competition with his second attempt which went 87.58m far. There was no one who could come close to Neeraj on the day as 1.3 billion people celebrated one of the biggest days in country's sporting history.

Neeraj Chopra enters the history books
The whole nation erupted with joy on Day 15 of Tokyo Olympics as Neeraj Chopra ended India’s campaign with one of the best-ever performances ever seen in history of sports in the country. While he became only the second-ever gold medalist from India in an individual event, the 23-year-old secured India’s 10th gold in the Summer Games. Notably, this is India’s first-ever medal in athletics after Norman Pritchard had won two silver medals at Paris 1900.
