The 2023 edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is underway. The seven teams participating in the league have played at least three games each. In the 11th match of the tournament, Fortune Barishal took on Comilla Victorians at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. Comilla Victorians won the toss and opted to bowl first. The defending champions restricted Barishal to 177/6 but could not chase down the target set.
Comilla fell short of Barishal’s total by 12 runs as the latter put on a complete show with the ball. Barishal also had luck/umpire favouring them as a controversial decision was made during Comilla Victorians’ inning. The Victorians batter Jake Ali was adjudged out LBW despite the ball pitching outside the leg stump.
The bizarre part about that decision was that the on-field umpire made an error by ruling the decision in the bowler’s favour, and the third umpire made it worse by retaining the decision despite seeing that the ball pitched outside the leg stump. Everyone including the commentators was left stunned at this bizarre decision. “I have no words,” one of the commentators was heard saying on air.

Now, another interesting thing about the dismissal is that it might not be legitimate as per the rules in place by ICC, it was spot on as per the rules in BPL. As one of the users shared, the BPL considers the ball pitching in line even if 1% of the ball is in line with one of the three stumps.
Notably, the batter was dismissed for a duck and it was Comilla Victorians' third consecutive defeat this season.
