On Friday, August 23, cricket witnessed its first-ever match with three super overs going down in the Maharaja T20 League 2024 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. In the afternoon clash, Hubli Tigers managed to defeat Bengaluru Blasters in the third super over, registering their fifth win in the competition to reach the top spot on the points table.
For the unversed, Hubli Tigers were put into bat first at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. They managed to post a decent total of 164 runs on the board, getting bundled out on the final ball of the innings against Bengaluru Blasters after a five-wicket haul for Lavish Kaushal.
In the run chase, Mayank Agarwal, the captain of Bengaluru Blasters, scored a fifty, but the rest of the batters struggled in the middle, which put them on the backfoot. But, an incredible cameo of 23 off 11 from Naveen MG was enough for Bengaluru Blasters to tie the match after Manvanth Kumar L picked up four wickets.
The first super over of the Maharaja T20 League 2024 match saw Bengaluru Blasters score 10/0, and in response, Hubli Tigers got 10/1. In the second super over of the match, Hubli Tigers got 8/0, and Bengaluru Blasters responded with 8/1, forcing a third super over.
During the third super over, Bengaluru Blasters posted 12/1 score on the board, but this time around, Hubli Tigers managed to get past the finishing line with 13/0 on the final ball. With that, Hubli Tigers pipped Bengaluru Blasters and Mysuru Warriors to claim top spot on the Maharaja T20 League 2024 standings with 10 points.
