Sri Lanka is hosting the world Test champions Australia in a two-match Test series in Galle. With the first Test being played at the Galle International Cricket Stadium, Australia have been in their supreme form, registering their highest total in Asia in Test cricket history, 654/6 declared.

After posting a mammoth total on the board, it was now turn for the hosts, Sri Lanka to take the field. With Oshada Fernando and Dimuth Karunaratne taking the crease for Sri Lanka, both departed after registering seven runs each. Veteran Angelo Mathews also could not capitalise on the opportunity as he fell to a brilliant catch, taken by Travis Head.
