Australian batsman Travis Head stabilized the side’s innings by playing a phenomenal knock on the second day of the ongoing first Test of Ashes 2021-22. The-27-year old scored an 85-ball-hundred at The Gabba to extend his team’s lead to 196 runs by the end of day's play. The batter returned to the dugout carrying his bat but his 112-run knock that came on the back of a 95-ball stay at the crease was not that easy as he made it look like.
Right in the next over after Head scored his century, he was stunned by Mark Wood’s full toss delivery. He was hit on the glove by a nasty beamer, which was bowled at 138.6kmph by Wood. The ball also hit the batter's chin and jaw. Right after the incident, Wood went up and apologized to the Australian southpaw who fell flat on the ground. Fortunately, Head wasn’t injured and was good to go after some treatment from the physios.

Head smashes 85-ball ton to give Australia big lead over England
The 27-year-old smashed his third Test century during the ongoing Ashes opener in Brisbane on Thursday. Notably, this is the fastest Test century at the venue. The Australian batter’s 85-ball ton included 2 sixes and 12 fours, which is the third fastest century in Ashes history.
Earlier, Australian opener David Warner fell short of his ton following a massive partnership of 156 runs for the second wicket with Marnus Labuschagne. Australia ended Day 2 on 343/7, with a lead of 196 runs after phenomenal display of cricket from Head, Warner and Labuschagne. On the other hand, Ollie Robinson returned figures of 3/48 as England made a comeback later in the day. With this, Joe Root and company were finally back in the game. It’ll be interesting to see how the third day of this exciting match unfolds.
