Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Travis Head has commended Rohit Sharma ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 contest between his team and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on April 17. SRH made a comeback against Punjab Kings (PBKS) after recording four defeats in a row. Sunrisers scripted history by chasing down a humongous target of 246 runs while playing at their home ground Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The opening duo of Abhishek Sharma and Head did a magnificent job for Hyderabad as both stitched a 171-run stand for the first wicket in just 74 balls. Abhishek went on to rack up 141 off just 55 while Head also scored 66 off 37.
Before squaring off against MI, Head appeared on Star Sports and expressed his views regarding Rohit Sharma, who has been out of rhythm in IPL 2025 thus far. The 31-year-old Australian said he is inspired by Rohit as the India veteran has taken the game to another level with his leadership and opening batting in the last couple of years. "I think I learnt from or was inspired by watching Rohit. I haven't spent like any time with him really but just by the way, he is, his actions and the way he has played, led over couple of years - I think as another opening batter - he has taken the game on, inspired few guys - led from front and has been extremely aggressive so it's something that I have really enjoyed watching", said Head to Star Sports.
Rohit is expected to play a good innings against SRH in IPL 2025
Rohit’s bat has remained quiet, this season, so far. The 37-year-old has scored only 56 runs in five outings for MI in the tournament. Showing up against SRH at the home ground, he will look to be among the runs. Travis Head’s performance has also slumped for Hyderabad as compared to his batting numbers in the 2024 season.
The Aussie southpaw has amassed 214 runs in six games at an average of 35.66, in this competition. MI and SRH have squared off against each other 23 times in which the five-time champion side bagged 13 wins while the Orange Army emerged victorious on 10 occasions.
