The UAE leg of IPL 2021 looks like producing another low scoring thriller in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. After SRH could only post a total of 141/7 in 20 overs in difficult batting conditions, the onus was on RCB openers to take the game away inside the powerplay. However, things did not go as per plan for them as Bhuvneshwar Kumar sent Virat Kohli back to the pavilion in the very first over of the run-chase.

The Orange Army were filled with confidence and knew that if they could also dismiss Devdutt Padikkal, they would be back in this contest with both RCB openers back in the dug-out. And as it turned out, SRH did get a glimmer of hope in the 2nd over of the innings.

SRH waste DRS and even concedes an extra run

Jason Holder bowled a delivery down the leg side as Padikkal attempted to play a glance off his pads. The left-handed batsman missed the ball as the ball went straight into gloves of Wriddhiman Saha. There was a loud appeal from the bowler, who convinced Kane Williamson into taking a DRS despite Saha admitting that he did not hear any noise.

It looked like the ball could have just gone off the pads on the way back to keeper, which is why the on-field umpire had not signaled it as wide. However, the replays confirmed that the ball had not touched anything as there was a flat line on ultra edge.

As a result, on-field umpire Sundaram Ravi was instructed (by 3rd umpire Chris Gaffaney) to stay with his original decision of not out. But there was an anti-climatic end to the whole incident as he had to signal it as wide since the ball was down the leg side without any contact with either bat or pads. Unfortunately for SRH and Kane, they wasted a review as well as conceded an extra run by taking DRS.
