Joe Root was undoubtedly the star of show on Day 3 as the English skipper struck a fantastic hundred at Lord's to take his side ahead of India's first innings total of 364. The 30-year-old frustrated the Indian bowlers on Saturday as he went on to score his second century of the series, in as many Tests. However, when the chance finally arrived to dismiss Joe Root, just a few inches deprived India of the golden opportunity.

Mohammed Siraj was in the middle of a brilliant spell, having dismissed Ollie Robinson after many close calls. The pacer had finally got an umpire's call from Michael Gough in his favour as he found himself just one wicket away from securing a brilliant five-wicket haul at Lord's. It looked like the moment had finally arrived when Siraj bowled a good length delivery which just nipped in at the last moment to beat Root's defense, striking the pads.

Another umpire's call goes against India

As India appealed loudly, umpire was quick to rule it not out. After opting to not take review for some time, Virat Kohli looked quite convinced this time around as he took the DRS. The replays confirmed that the ball had in fact struck the pads first and looked like crashing the stumps. While the impact was in line, it was marginally an umpire's call as it hit the stumps. Much to the anguish of Indian players, Root had survived.

Virat Kohli angry with the umpire

There were quite a few close calls which went against India in the first innings. While Kohli laughed off some calls, he tried to hide his emotions on a few occasions. However, this time around, the Indian captain made sure that he would let the umpire know that he was not happy with the decision.

As Siraj looked in despair towards the big screen, Kohli screamed with anguish as he later threw his cap onto the ground in utter frustration. Although it was only a matter of few inches, they were enough to keep Root at the crease much to India's disappointment.
