World number 2 women tennis star Anett Kontaveit crashed out of the US Open 2022 with a 6-7 (4), 6-2, 2-6 defeat against the legendary 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams on Wednesday at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The clash between two of the best tennis stars went on for two-hour, 27 minutes as both the players engaged in an intense and dramatic match.

There was little doubt on the fact that American crowd would go berserk to cheer for their favorite tennis player, the scene at Arther Ashe Stadium went over the imagination when crowd started booing the world number 2 Anett Kontaveit at one point for saving a break point on her own serve. 

Post-match, the 26-year-old appeared in full-control of her emotion as she lauded Serena for playing better game than her and admitted that she has no hard feeling for crowd that wanted the American to win the match. 

However, minutes after the first question a journalist comforted by saying that she does not have to be embarrassed about losing to a champion Serena Williams while adding that the crowd were indeed too hard on her. Despite agreeing to the journalist, Kontaveit broke down in tears and left the press room in a hurry.

With 23 Grand Slam titles already in her pocket and regarded as the greatest women's player of all time, Williams arrived in the year's final Grand Slam tournament ranked below 600, unseeded and just a single match win from three events. But after clinching first two wins and securing the spot in the third round, Williams is enroute to scripting a dreamy farewell from the tennis court. While playing infront of her home-crowd, American tennis star is not leaving a stone unturned to further extend her stay in the US Open 2022.

Earlier, Kontaveit claimed that Williams is looking in good touch and has all the chances to win the US Open 2022 if she plays her best game in the tournament. "I think Serena played very well. I know there are players who are in top-form but Serena can outplay anyone as she did with me," said world number 2.
