Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan made a big statement regarding captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni's future after CSK’s final home game against Kolkata Knight Riders. After a sub-par batting display by Chennai, the Knight Riders pulled off a composed run chase to register a crucial six-wicket win.

Super Kings posted 144 runs on the back of decent knocks by Dewon Conway and Shivam Dube, who top-scored with 48 runs in 34 balls. But in the second innings, despite early wickets, KKR’s Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh scored crucial half-centuries to keep the two-time champions' hopes alive in the IPL 2023.

After the game, Chennai Super Kings expressed gratitude towards their fan by completing a celebratory lap around the M.A. Chidambaram stadium. In a video posted on CSK's social media thanking the fans, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan stated that Dhoni will return for another IPL season.  He said, "We believe MS Dhoni is going to play next season as well so I hope fans will continue to support us like every time (translation from Tamil)."

Similarly, MS Dhoni had also alluded to the fact that this may not be his final when former New Zealand fast bowler Danny Morrison spoke about how this is a swansong season for Dhoni ahead of the game against Lucknow Super Giants in Ekana Stadium. But reacting to this MSD immediately stated that everyone has made it his possible final season but not he himself.

Danny Morrison had asked, "Clearly, This wonderful swansong tour, is your last. How are you enjoying it?". Reacting to which MS Dhoni, after winning the toss decided to field against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium and then replied, "You have decided it is my last IPL, not me."
