Despite consistent performance in the domestic circuit, cricketer Sarafraz Khan is not getting the national call and voices have started to rise from all quarters in regard to his snub.
The All-India Senior Selection Committee recently announced the squad for the first two Test matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 and Sarfaraz was once again excluded from the squad. Sarfaraz has been scoring enormous runs for his state team Mumbai in Ranji Trophy matches for the past two seasons. The 25-year-old was the leading run scorer in the Ranji Trophy 2021-22 season, scoring 982 runs in six matches.
While many questioned the selectors for not considering Sarfaraz in the red-ball cricket, a member of the BCCI’s national selection panel has now opened up on the issue. While speaking to Star Sports, Sridharan Sharath admitted that players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Cheteshwar Pujara are still making valuable contributions to the team, while Shubman Gill and KL Rahul have proved their ability in the top order.
“While picking the team it is important to take note of the team’s composition and balance. Sarfaraz is on our radar. In due course, he will get his due,” Mr. Sharath said. He further claimed that India’s batting order is completely stacked up and every player is playing instrumental innings.
“Suryakumar Yadav too can take the game quickly away from the opposition. He has different shots to unsettle an attack. Don’t forget he has over 5,000 first-class runs,” Sharath added.
