The D-day has finally come. India and Pakistan will be taking on each other later in the day at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the second match of the Asia Cup 2022. The two teams will be facing each other after ten months, since that T20 World Cup match and thus the anticipation around it is unmatchable. However, there is one more thing people are eager to see.
India’s star batter Virat Kohli’s form is the second biggest talking point after this India-Pakistan match. As the 33-year-old is returning from almost a month-long break, fans are eager to see if Kohli is able to redeem himself and become s the dominating batter he was two years ago. Many are also terming Asia Cup as the 'last audition' for the star batter ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup.
However, former India captain Kapil Dev has warned everyone from talking about such things. Dev who himself questioned Kohli’s place in the Indian team a few months back, has said that he does not think of it that way.
"I don't think so. We shouldn't even think about it," Kapil responded to a reporter's query of whether the Asia Cup 2022 is Kohli's 'last audition' before the T20 World Cup on Uncut.
"If we use terms like last audition, or last chance, I don't think that is right. I just want to say to him that he should keep on playing matches. Sometimes, you shouldn't be taking too many breaks. He is a professional and he should not have that problem. I personally feel he should play as many matches and as many matches he can play. That's more important. When you start scoring runs, then the thought process changes", he added.
Notably, Virat Kohli has not scored a century in more than 1,000 days. The 33-year-old has also been struggling to get to the 50-run mark lately.
