It’s been 15 years since India won their first T20 World Cup title under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. The Men in Blue had a chance to repeat the heroics from fifteen years back but they could not as England thrashed India by ten wickets in the semifinals. Nevertheless, that win in 2007 is still a major achievement for India as well as MS Dhoni.
It was Dhoni’s first major tournament as a captain and the Ranchi-born cricketer proved to the world why he was chosen over everyone in the team to lead. Dhoni led a team full of youngsters against the heavyweights of cricket like England and New Zealand and eventually defeated the arch-rivals Pakistan in a thrilling contest to lead the team to their maiden title.
Although it has been more than a decade, the memories are still fresh in the heads of ardent cricket fans. “In the air and Sreesanth takes it,” still echoes in the heads of many. Those fans will get a chance to go down memory lane as a documentary web series on India’s 2007 T20 World Cup triumph is all set to release next year.
It’s reported that a multi-language documentary web series, featuring 15 Indian cricketers and an A-list actor is set to release in 2023. The two-third shoot for the same is also complete. UK-based production house One One Six Network will be releasing the documentary series. Anand Kumar, who has directed films like Zila Ghaziabad and Delhi Heights, has been trusted with the direction.
Meanwhile, Saurabh M Pandey has been assigned the responsibility of writing. However, the documentary series has not been titled yet.
Notably, the likes of Virender Sehwag, Robin Uthappa, Dinesh Karthik, and S Sreesanth were a part of India's squad in the tournament. India had defeated Pakistan by five runs in the final to lift the coveted trophy.
