Football and Formula One are certainly two of the most beloved sports across the globe. The fans have always seen cases of some brilliant comradery shown between the superstars of different sports. But on Sunday, the fans witnessed something very unique as Formula One's biggest team right now - Mercedes took a sly dig at Football giants of Spain - FC Barcelona.

Mercedes welcome Antoine Griezmann to the team

Ahead of the much-awaited Spanish GP in Catalonia, Barcelona's star player Antonie Griezmann paid a visit and was warmly welcomed by the Mercedes team. The Silver Arrows posted a video of the 30-year-old as Griezmann looked delighted holding team's helmet. The caption stated, "New joiner in the pit crew today! Welcome to the Team @AntoGriezmann!" To add some more fun and drama to this, the Brackley-based team cheekily also tweeted, "We’ll keep him if he’s good" and tagged the club (FC Barcelona) and national team (France) of the player.

Antoine Griezmann to Mercedes?

While it was certainly a fun banter between the two teams, have you ever wondered how this could happen and make sense for both the teams? Well, Griezmann is a big fan of Formula One and would definitely love to join Mercedes (who have the fastest car in the sport) if he gets an offer. However, Griezmann joined Barcelona for a whopping sum of €120 million in 2019 and has a contract with FC Barcelona till 30 June 2024.

But, a deal between two teams can actually be made. How? Let's look at a hypothetical situation. On one side, the contract of Valtteri Bottas is expiring next season and Mercedes will be looking for a replacement. Meanwhile, FC Barcelona have also been under huge financial crisis recently and are looking to release some of their players to get required funds this summer. With Antoine Griezmann's transfer to Mercedes, this move can solve the problems for both the teams. The only big question coming in the way of this whole deal is - Are Griezmann's driving skills on par with his football skills? If the answer is yes, then this whole hypothetical situation can certainly become a reality. But, until then, it will only remain a funny banter and nothing more than that.

The fans would now eagerly be waiting for a reply from FC Barcelona to the hilarious dig taken by Mercedes, which would certainly end this whole banter in style.
