Reigning champions West Indies have been handed a major blow ahead of their do-or-die game in the T20 World Cup 2021 campaign against Bangladesh. Windies Cricket have confirmed that their left-arm fast bowler Obed McCoy has been ruled out of the tournament due to a shin injury.

Notably, McCoy played West Indies’ opening game against England but missed the second match against South Africa on October 26 at the Dubai International Stadium.

Reflecting on the same, Cricket West Indies’ Lead Men’s Selector Roger Harper said, “McCoy did really well in the T20Is earlier this year and adapted well in the opening match against England. He was a key member of the bowling unit and it’s unfortunate he won’t be able to take any further part in the tournament.”

Jason Holder set to replace McCoy

With Obed McCoy out, all-rounder Jason Holder (who is a part of reserves) has been included in 15-member squad for West Indies.

The change in the squad was approved by the ICC Tournament’s Technical Committee consisting of Chris Tetley (Head of Events, Chair), Clive Hitchcock (ICC Senior Cricket Operations Manager), Rahul Dravid and Dhiraj Malhotra (BCCI Representatives), Simon Doull and Ian Bishop (Independent Members).

Updated West Indies Squad:

Kieron Pollard (Captain), Nicholas Pooran (Vice-captain), Dwayne Bravo, Roston Chase, Andre Fletcher, Chris Gayle, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Evin Lewis, Ravi Rampaul, Andre Russell, Lendl Simmons, Oshane Thomas, Hayden Walsh Jr.
