Indian weightlifter Gururaja Poojary lifted his personal best to claim the bronze medal in Men's 61kg category in the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Saturday. Gururaja lifted a total of 269 kg to secure the bronze and Twitterati congratulated the 29-year-old Indian weightlifter.

Gururaja Poojary won bronze medal to register the second medal for the Indian contingent in the Birmingham Games 2022 as he cleared 118 kg in snatch lift and lifted 151 kg in the clean and jerk round to lead Canada's Youri Simard by 1 kg in total weight.

Malaysian weightlifter Muhammad Ahmad secured the gold medal in the 61 kg category by lifting a total of 285 kg (127 kg in snatch and 158 kg in clean & jerk). Morea Baru of Papua New Guinean, who lifted 273 kg (121 kg in snatch and 152 kg in clean & jerk), secured the silver medal in the Birmingham Games 2022.
