After taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series and gaining the No. 1 ranking across formats, the KL Rahul-led side will take on the Aussies in the second ODI at the Holkar Stadium, Indore. While the Men in Blue enjoyed an off day, yesterday, the limelight was on the Pakistan cricket team. The Babar Azam-led side was targeted by former cricketer Mohammad Asif after their dismal outing at the Asia Cup with the ODI World Cup ahead.

But before we move on to the round up of cricket news around the world on September 23, here is the preview of today’s matches:

India vs Australia
India will play against Australia in the second ODI of the three-match series at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. The first match of the series belonged to the Men in Blue, who went on to defeat the Aussies by five wickets in a comfortable run chase , taking a 1-0 lead in the series.

Asian Games 2023 - IND W vs BANG W & PAK W vs SL W
With the 19 th  Asian Games declared open on Saturday, 23 September 2023 in a glittering ceremony in Hangzhou, the Women in Blue will take on Bangladesh Women in the semifinals after the two sides progressed further on the base of their respective ICC Rankings as rain played a spoilsport in their quarterfinal fixture.

On the other hand, in the second semifinal of the day in women’s cricket, Pakistan Women will take on Sri Lanka Women, with the winners further progressing into the final for the medal glory at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field.

South Africa Women will host the Kiwi Women side in a three-match ODI series, followed by a five-match T20I series. While the Proteas Women are coming after a complete whitewash against the Pakistan Women, the New Zealand Women last featured in July 2023, registering a 22-1 series win over Sri Lanka Women. The first of the three-match series will begin on September 24 at the Senwes Park, Potchefstroom at 1:30 pm IST.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of a Lord Shiva-themed cricket stadium in Varanasi on Saturday, September 23. The stadium, which will be built on INR  121 C rore land, is estimated to cost around INR  330 crore , boasting of a seating capacity of nearly 30,000 people. The event also saw BCCI President Roger Binny, accompanied by Rajiv Shukla and Secretary Jay Shah.

ODI World Cup: Kolkata Police Commissioner assures top-level security for Pakistan team at Eden Gardens
After earlier requesting the BCCI to reschedule the Pakistan vs England clash due to the coinciding of the match with the Kali Puja, the Kolkata Police Commissioner in the latest move has reassured fans and the cricketing fraternity to provide top-notch security to the Pakistan team. The Eden Gardens will host India, England, Pakistan and Bangladesh during the marquee event.

On September 22, Friday, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a 15-member Pakistan squad for ODI World Cup 2023, but, in a surprising turn of events, Hasan Ali replaced injured Naseem Shah in it. The decision from the team management and the selectors didn’t sit well with the former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Asif, who said that Hasan Ali made the team because he is part of a lobby of the captain Babar Azam.

Pragyan Ojha to leave IPL Governing Council: Reports
Former Indian cricketer Pragyan Ojha is likely to step down from the players’ representative role in the governing Council of IPL. A decision  on the same is reported to be taken during the AGM of the BCCI in Goa on September 25.

Rahul Dravid’s son Samit gets named in Karnataka’s 15-member squad for Vinoo Mankad Trophy 2023
Former Indian cricketer and current Team India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid’s elder son Samit Dravid has been named in Karnataka’s 15-member squad for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy 2023. The U19 tournament is set to take place from October 15 to 20 in Hyderabad.

MCC issues clarification on hit-wicket incident from County Championship match
In a County Championship match between Kent and Somerset, a hilarious incident took place where Lewis Goldsworthy’s bat broke and went onto to hit the stumps. In what was a rare dismissal for all, the umpire called for a no-ball as the Kent bowler Jaskaran had overstepped. However, the MCC also issued a statement on this rare incident, citing, “The striker is not out under this Law… (if) the delivery is a No ball.”

MS Dhoni spotted with Indian actor Mohanlal for ad shoot; picture surfaces
The former World Cup-winning captain for India, MS Dhoni, was pictured on camera with the Indian superstar actor Mohanlal, which went viral on social media, on September 23, Saturday. The 41-year-old was reportedly taking part in an ad shoot with the “Kireedam” famed artist, who is predominantly known for working in the Malayalam film industry.

New Zealand take 1-0 lead in ODI series against Bangladesh
New Zealand bowled out Bangladesh at the score of 168 in 41.1 overs after putting 254 runs on the board, winning the match by 86 runs and taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. However, the Kiwis registered their first ODI win since 2008 and Ish Sodhi was the star as he registered his career best figures in ODI.
