But before the auction kickstarts at 1:00 p.m. IST on December 19, which will see 214 Indians as well as 119 overseas players, including two from the Associate Nations go under the hammer, SportsTiger aims to put the rules for the auction clear. Among many such is the accelerated process in the IPL auction.

IPL 2024 auction: What is the accelerated process?

Like in every edition of the IPL auction, the IPL 2024 auction will also have an accelerated process. But you must be thinking, what exactly is the accelerated rule in IPL auction. The auctioneer, Mallika Sagar will announce the names from the first ten sets which contains both capped as well as uncapped players under the categories of batters, all-rounder wicketkeepers, pacers, spinners, etc.

After the completion of the first ten sets, which includes a total of 70 players, the auction will see a long break where the franchises will be asked to submit the names of the players from the sets, whom they would like to buy. Following the shortlisting of the selected players from the ten franchises, members of the IPL Governing Council will then prepare a fresh list, combining names given by all franchises for the accelerated round.

Furthermore, if any of the ten franchises hasn’t completed its squad in the first accelerated round, a similar process will be carried again with them submitting the player names from the unsold list. Notably, this procedure continues until the franchises complete their squads, which includes a 25-member squad.
