However, India ended their campaign at the Summer Games wat 71st position with five bronze and one silver medal, which came with Neeraj Chopra’s 89.45m throw in men’s javelin throw. On Saturday, the CAS, which was set to announce the verdict on Vinesh Phogat’s silver medal plea, also extended the deadline to August 11, which is also the final day of the Summer Olympics.

India’s Aman Sehrawat on Friday, August 9 became the youngest Indian athlete to win an individual Olympic medal. The Indian wrestler, who lost to top-seeded Rei Higuchi of Japan in the semi-final, is said to have undergone a rigorous routine ahead of his bronze medal match to cut down 4.5kgs in just 10 hours.
Olympic champion Rei Higuchi extends support to Vinesh Phogat
Rei Higuchi, the Japanese wrestler, who won the men’s 57kg freestyle gold medal at the Paris 2024, extended his support to Vinesh Phogat after she got disqualified from the Olympic Games for missing her weight by 100gms. He had also suffered a similar fate during the Tokyo 2020 Qualifier, getting disqualified from the event after being found overweight by 50gms.

Indian wrestler Reetika Hooda went down to Aiperi Medet Kyzy of Kyrgyzstan in the women’s 76kg freestyle wrestling quarterfinal at Paris Olympics 2024. Reetika, who is India’s sixth and final wrestler at the Summer Games 2024 was defeated by her top-seeded counterpart with a scoreline of 1-1. However, her campaign isn't over yet as she still can competing in the repechage round, should Aiperi Kyzy reaches final.

The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) extended the deadline for Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat's medal verdict till August 11. The judicial body was to announce the final verdict on Phogat's appeal vs. United World Wrestling & the International Olympic Committee matter on Saturday, where the Indian wrestler had filed an appeal for a joint silver medal at Paris Olympics 2024.
