Satwik-Chirag crash out in first round at Japan Masters 2023

The world number five duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty crashed out of the Kumamoto Masters Japan 2023 men’s doubles badminton event after suffering a first-round defeat. They lost to Chinese Taipei’s world No. 21 pair of Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han 21-16, 18-21, 16-21 in 63 minutes in the round of 32. Other than them, HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen and Priyanshu Rajawat will be in action on Wednesday.

Neeraj Chopra makes it to 5 finalists of Men's World Athlete of Year 2023 award

Indian Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra has been included in the five finalists of the men's World Athlete of the Year 2023 award. Neeraj was part of the 11 athletes who were in the race for the honour by the track and field governing body. The Indian javelin thrower will now compete for the final honour with Noah Lyles, pole vault star Mondo Duplantis, shot putter Ryan Crouser and Kenyan marathon star Kelvin Kiptum.

AICF announces monetary assistance of INR 2 crore to Vidit Gujrathi, R. Praggnanandhaa and R.Vaishali

The All India Chess Federation announced financial assistance of INR 2 crore to Vidit Gujrathi, R. Praggnanandhaa and R. Vaishali. The amount will be divided between the three of them and will be for their training, travel, building a team and much more. AICF President Sanjay Kapoor said, "We recognize the immense potential of Praggnandhaaa, Vidit, and Vaishali to make history in the world of chess. Our financial backing is a strategic move to empower these exceptional players and ensure they have the support they need to chase victory and etch their names in the annals of chess greatness."

David Beckham to attend Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja's party in Mumbai: Report

Former England football team captain David Beckham is likely to attend a party hosted by Bollywood actor Sonam Kapoor and her husband and businessman Anand Ahuja. As per a report by the ANI, it will be a private affair and only 25 people are invited to the bash. Not only this, but the report further states that Beckham is likely to meet a few members of the film fraternity. Beckham also attended India vs New Zealand ODI World Cup 2023 semi-final clash at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. 

Thomas Muller dons Indian jersey to wish cricket team good luck for World Cup

Germany and Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller donned a team India jersey and extended his best wishes to Men in Blue. Muller took to Twitter to share a video of himself receiving the blue jersey on Monday. He wrote, “Thank you Team India for the shirt. And good luck at the World Cup. It is a pleasure. Look at this, @imVkohli. Thank you for the shirt, #TeamIndia! Good luck at the @cricketworldcup.”

Emma Haynes named US women's football team coach

Chelsea manager Emma Haynes has left her job in the Women's Super League to be the next head coach of the US women's football team. Haynes has been one of the most successful coaches in women's football history and will be tasked to get the USWNT to its prior dominant self after a disappointing World Cup."This is a huge honour to be allowed to coach the most incredible team in world football history," Hayes said in the statement announcing her appointment.

Ex-Chelsea keeper Cech joins Ice hockey team Belfast Giants

Former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has joined ice hockey champions Belfast Giants on loan from Oxford City Stars as temporary emergency cover. After retiring from football in the 2018-19 season, Cech turned to ice hockey in the UK and joined Guildford Phoenix. Talking about Cech's signing, Belfast Giants head coach Adam Keefe said, "Petr is a highly decorated athlete, who knows what it takes to perform at the highest level, so his support during this loan period will be invaluable."

Union Berlin parts ways with  coach Urs Fischer

German club Union Berlin sacked coach Urs Fischer after a nine-game losing run in the Bundesliga leaving them in last place.  Union had a fourth-place finish last season and earned their first-ever Champions League group stage spot. The club released a statement that said,  "1. FC Union Berlin and their head coach Urs Fischer are going their separate ways with immediate effect. The joint decision was taken by Union president Dirk Zingler and Fischer in person during a meeting on Monday afternoon."

Sinner  registers 1st career win over  Novak Djokovic in  Nitto ATP Finals

Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner ended Novak Djokovic's winning streak after 19 matches as home favourite Jannik Sinner in the Nitto ATP Finals crowd in Turin on Tuesday. Sinner registered a  superb 7-5 6-7(5) 7-6(2) victory. This was also Sinner's first win over  Novak Djokovic in his career.
