D Gukesh secures second consecutive win

Indian prodigy D Gukesh secured the second consecutive win and moved to the solo lead at the Chennai Grand Masters Chess Championship. He secured a fifth-round win over Hungary’s Sanan Sjugirov here on Tuesday. Gukesh recorded his maiden win of the tournament over Serbia’s Alexandr Predke on Monday, defeated Sjugirov with black pieces, and now has a total of 3.5 points. Fifth-round results are as follows: 

Fifth round: Sanan Sjugirov lost to D Gukesh. Pentala Harikrishna drew with Parham Maghsoodloo. Arjun Erigaisi drew with Levon Aronian. Alexandr Predke lost to Pavel Eljanov.

Jake Paul to train USA boxing team and accompany them to Paris Olympics 2024

Boxer and former social media personality Jake Paul will train the USA boxing team and will accompany them to the Paris Olympics 2024. Paul will travel to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado and cover his training stint with the national USA team on his social media channels. The boxer reacted to the same and announced a new assignment on X (formerly Twitter). Paul tweeted, “Im honoured to partner with USA Boxing as the 2024 Paris Olympics approach. I’ll be training with the Olympic squad in Colorado Springs this winter and accompanying them to Paris this July to amplify our country’s best amateur boxers.”

Roger Federer's former coach reveals Swiss’ preparation under him

Roger Federer's former coach Paul Annacone recently opened up about how the tennis star once prepared for a match under him. Annacone was in a conversation with the Rock n Roll Tennis podcast, where he shared an anecdote about how he and Federer prepared for a match together. He said, “Roger was a little different earlier on in our relationship. We did watch a bunch of videos, usually the night before. That probably went on for six months or so. But what Roger would the night before, you know, after dinner, he'd swing by my room.”

He added, “I would pick out three or four themes beforehand of what I wanted him to be aware of. He would come to the room and we would point it out on video something that he did or against someone he’s about to play the next day, some patterns to think about," he said. "But it was not a 17-hour debate. Literally, it was probably 15-20 minutes with Roger’s questions and answers, things that have been good in the past and then reinforcing it the next day right before they play just five or ten minutes."

Satwik-Chirag duo gets Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Awar d

Indian badminton duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have been nominated for the Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award for their immense contribution to the sport. Another 26 Sports persons will receive the Arjuna Awards for outstanding performance in Sports and Games in 2023. 

Indian fast bowler Mohammad Shami is also one of the 26 names who will receive the Arjuna Awards for his exceptional performance for team India. The names of the Arjuna Awardees are Ojas Pravin Deotale (Archery), Aditi Gopichand Swami (Archery), Sreeshankar M (Athletics), Parul Chaudhary (Athletics), Mohameed Hussamuddin (Boxing), R Vaishali (Chess), Mohammed Shami (Cricket), Anush Agarwalla (Equestrian), Divyakriti Singh (Equestrian Dressage), and more.

Indian Men’s Hockey Team goes down to Germany in 5 Nations Tournament Valencia 2023 

Indian men’s hockey team slumped to Germany 2-3 in its third clash of the 5 Nations Tournament Valencia 2023 on Saturday. On India’s side, Abhishek and Shamsher Singh were the goal scorers. The Indian team took the lead early in the game as Abhishek (9’) recorded a goal. It was quickly followed up by another field goal from Shamsher Singh (14’) as the first quarter ended with the score reading 2-0 in favour of India. Germany’s goals came from Malte Hellwig in 28th minute, Christopher Ruhr in the 50th minute, and Gonzalo Peillat in the 51st minute.

BBC names  Mary Earps  Sports Personality of the Year

England women's goalkeeper Mary Earps was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year on Tuesday. Earps beat cricketer Stuart Broad to win this award and was pivotal in  England's run to the World Cup final in Australia. In the final, Earps saved a penalty in the 1-0 defeat against Spain.  The 30-year-old was named the Golden Gloves award winner after conceding only four goals. Talking about this achievement, Earps said,  "It's not been the easiest journey and I wouldn't be here without my loved ones in my corner, who have been with me through the really not-so-great times," 

Neymar to miss  Copa America 2024  

Brazil's talisman Neymar will not recover from knee surgery for the Copa America 2024 as per the national team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar. The former Barcelona star  underwent surgery last month after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus in his left knee in October.  "There won't be time, it's too early, there's no point skipping steps to recover sooner and taking unnecessary risks," Lasmar told Brazilian radio station Radio 98 FM.  "We expect that he will be ready to return at the start of the 2024 season in Europe, which is in August. We need to be patient. Talking about a return before nine months is premature."

Russian Football Union to stay with UEFA despite rumours of joining AFC

The Russian Football Union (RFU) has voted against joining the football federation membership to Asia from Europe. The Russian news agencies stated the RFU will stay with the European organisation as Moscow hopes to improve relations with UEFA.  "The question (of moving to the AFC) was discussed. We unanimously voted against as there are no guarantees from FIFA," the RIA news agency quoted RFU committee member Mikhail Gershkovich as saying on Wednesday. "We have decided to continue contacts with UEFA, especially as there is progress."

Nottingham Forest announce  Nuno Espirito Santo  as new manager

Nottingham Forest announced Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager. Santo will replace Steve Cooper  following five defeats in six games which go to 17th place in the table with five points above the relegation zone.  "Nuno joins the club on a two-and-a-half-year contract and will take charge of his first match on Saturday when Forest face Bournemouth at The City Ground," the club said in a statement.
