Jenni Hermoso receives threats amidst Luis Rubiales controversy

In her interview with GQ Magazine in Spain, Jenni Hermoso, the Spanish forward, who was the part of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 winning team, said that she has received “threats,” amidst the controversy surrounding herself and Luis Rubiales, the former President of the Spanish Football Federation. The 46-year-old official, who has been banned by FIFA for three years from all football related activities, due to him kissing Jenni Hermoso on the lips on the night of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 final, which she stated wasn’t consensual.

Tottenham sink to first defeat of Premier League season after two red cards

On Monday, November 6, Tottenham sank to their first defeat of the 2023-24 Premier League season against Chelsea by 4-1 after Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie received red cards on either side of the halves at home. Dejan Kulusevski had put Tottenham in the lead in the 6th minute, but with less than 11 players on the football pitch, they conceded to Code Palmer in the 35th minute, before Nicolas Jackson completed the second half hat-trick to hand a massive win in the London derby to Chelsea. 

ELN rebel group delay the release of Luis Diaz’s father

The rebel group in Colombia, the National Liberation Army (ELN), responsible for kidnapping the father of Liverpool footballer Luis Diaz, have delayed the release of him, citing the presence of the Colombian military in their areas. Notably, Luis Diaz had made the plea to the kidnappers to release his father immediately in a statement after he scored an equaliser for Liverpool against Luton Town in the Premier League.

The Colombian military withdrew troops in order to facilitate the release of Luis Diaz’s father. The troops have been on a nine-day hunt for Diaz's father, who, along with his mother, was kidnapped by the left-wing rebel group, the National Liberation Army (ELN) in Barrancas nine days ago. While the Liverpool striker’s mother was rescued hours later, his father remains a hostage of the rebel group.

Bruno Fernandes emerges as potential target for Saudi Pro League clubs next summer: Reports

The Portuguese footballer Bruno Fernandes, who captains Manchester United, has reportedly emerged as a potential target for the Saudi Pro League clubs next summer, as per post from the football journalist Rudy Galleti on X. He has stated that the “PIF (Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia) is already taking some concrete steps ahead of the next summer transfer session,’’ with some of their representatives set to meet the entourage of Bruno Fernandes.

Indian chess star Vidit Gujrathi expressed his excitement after clinching the FIDE Grand Swiss title. Gujarati defeated Alexandr Predke in the last round on Sunday and emerged victorious by winning a total of 8.5 points. After his win, Gujarati said, “Without a doubt, this is the highlight of my career so far! It had been a really long time since I had won any tournament, even rapid or blitz. So, to win such a strong event, it will take something like winning the FIDE Candidates to top it. It was always one of my goals to play in the FIDE Candidates, and it is a very hard cycle to qualify, so I am happy!”

Indian shuttler PV Sindhu is likely to be out of action for at least three months after her injury in the French Open 2023. The two-time Olympic medallist is likely to make her return to the court in February next year. As per a report by Khel Now, the player will be kept under protected rankings, where she will get to maintain her rankings despite her inability to compete in tournaments.

Iga Swiatek reaches on top after beating Jessica Pegula in WTA Finals 

Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek defeated Jessica Pegula 6-1, 6-0 to win her first WTA Finals title and regain world number 1 rankings. Not only this, but with the win, Swiatek became the youngest WTA Finals champion since Petra Kvitova was 21 in 2011. After her defeat to Swiatek, Pegula said, “She clearly really wanted that ranking. I mean, you could tell by the way she was competing here. ... She was, like today, crushing people.” 

Swiatek reclaimed the number 1 position by replacing Aryna Sabalenka, who she had defeated in the semifinals of the tournament.
