The 46-year-old official, who has been banned by FIFA for three years from all football related activities, due to him kissing Jenni Hermoso on the lips on the night of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 final, which she stated wasn’t consensual.

The rebel group in Colombia, the National Liberation Army (ELN), responsible for kidnapping the father of Liverpool footballer Luis Diaz, have delayed the release of him, citing the presence of the Colombian military in their areas. Notably, Luis Diaz had made the plea to the kidnappers to release his father immediately in a statement after he scored an equaliser for Liverpool against Luton Town in the Premier League.

While the Liverpool striker’s mother was rescued hours later, his father remains a hostage of the rebel group.

Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek defeated Jessica Pegula 6-1, 6-0 to win her first WTA Finals title and regain world number 1 rankings. Not only this, but with the win, Swiatek became the youngest WTA Finals champion since Petra Kvitova was 21 in 2011. After her defeat to Swiatek, Pegula said, “She clearly really wanted that ranking.
