Indian shooter Zahid Hussain hailing from Kashmir clinched a silver medal at the Asian Shooting Championship 2023.  Indian ace PV Sindhu provided an update on the knee injury that she suffered during the match at the French Open 2023. In the realm of hockey, India beat Japan 2-1 to advance to the women's Asian Champions Trophy semifinal. 

Whereas in the USA, the sports world saw two big trades in the NBA and the NFL. James Harden was traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Los Angeles Clippers. Whereas as the Washington Commanders traded defensive ends Montez Sweat and Chase Young to the Chicago Bears and San Franciso 49ers respectively.

Kashmir’s Zahid Hussain clinches silver at Asian Shooting Championship 2023

Indian shooter Zahid Hussain hailing from Kashmir clinched a silver medal at the Asian Shooting Championship 2023. The shooter secured 624.5 points in the continental tournament to finish second in the men’s 50M rifle-prone event. Hussain finished 1.1 points behind the gold medalist, Kazakhstan’s Malinovskiy Konstantin, who scored 625.6 points. China’s Du Linshu claimed the third spot with a total of 624.3 points.

Hockey:

India beat Japan 2-1 to sail into women's Asian Champions Trophy semifinal

India registered a 2-1 win over Japan to make it to the Asian Champions Trophy semifinal. The team made it to the game on the back of convenient wins over Thailand, Malaysia and China. India’s goals came from Navneet Kaur in the 31st minute and Sangita Kumari in the 47th minute, while Japan’s Kana Urata hit the goal in the 41st minute. The match also saw Vandana Katariya becoming the first woman player to play 300 international matches. 

Badminton:

PV Sindhu provides injury update; vows to come back stronger

Indian shuttler PV Sindhu provided an update on her knee injury that she suffered during the match at the French Open. The two-time Olympic medalist has been advised to rest for a few weeks by medical professionals. The shuttler took to social media and said, “Determined to come back firing on all cylinders. Not the ideal update but  going to make this count. Let’s do this.”

I’m a new AC Milan star: Novak Djokovic fools IShowSpeed at Ballon d’Or ceremony in 2023

Tennis star Novak Djokovic fooled YouTuber and social media sensation IShowSpeed in a funny interaction at the Ballon d’Or 2023 ceremony. The 24 Grand Slam winner managed to fool IShowSpeed at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris. Speed met Novak Djokovic but failed to recognise the tennis icon and asked for his name, instead of revealing his identity, Djokovic about his identity and said that he belonged to AC Milan, one of the most popular football clubs. Speed asked, "Hey bro, what's your name? You look so familiar.” 

Speed asked him, with the Serbian replying: "Hey man, what's up? Good to see you!" Djokovic added, "I'm a new AC Milan star.”

AIFF evaluates Indian football team’s performance across various tournaments

The All-India Football Federation evaluated the Indian football team’s performance across various tournaments. Not only this, but the committee also labelled India’s performance at the Asian Games 2023 ‘satisfactory’. 

AIFF secretary general Shaji Prabhakaran told PTI, “The technical committee felt the performance of the men’s team was satisfactory considering the circumstances where the team reached just before the tournament and many players in the original squad were not there.” 

Saudi Arabia to host FIFA World Cup 2034

Saudi Arabia was the only football association to present a bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup before the deadline closed and hence is set to host the event.  FIFA had invited bids from Asia and Oceania for the tournament by Oct. 31. Here Saudi Arabia had presented a strong build while Australia, who also presented a bid, took back the proposal.

Alexander Zverev has been ordered by a Berlin court to pay an undisclosed fine for physically abusing the mother of his child. The development was shared by the German tennis player's lawyers. Zerev "rejects the accusation made against him" by his former girlfriend Brenda Patea that she was a victim of bodily harm during an argument in 2020, his lawyers added.

NBA:

Philadelphia 76ers trade Harden to  Los Angeles Clippers

James Harden has been traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Los Angeles Clippers. As first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the 76ers agreed to trade Harden early Tuesday morning.  The Sixers received  Nicolas Batum,  Marcus Morris,  Robert Covington,  KJ Martin and  Multiple draft picks.  Clippers received  James Harden,  P.J. Tucker and  Filip Petrusev

NFL:

Washington Commanders trade  defensive ends Montez Sweat and Chase Young

The Washington Commanders traded starting defensive ends Montez Sweat and Chase Young to the  Chicago Bears  and the San Francisco 49ers. The Bears  gave up a 2024 second-round draft pick for Sweat, while the 49ers used a compensatory third-rounder for Young.  The two former first-round picks both will be free agents at the end of the league year.
