Cricket, Soccer, Pickleball are some of the sports that have been attracting attentions from US audience. The sport’s one key feature is that it can be played by people of all ages. While many knows about cricket and soccer, pickleball is one such sport, whose rules and regulations are still unheard of. In this article, we will talk about the fastest growing sport in US and explain all the details regarding pickleball.  

What is pickleball?

Pickleball was invented decades ago by families on Bainbridge Island in Washington State. It can be described as a mix of tennis, badminton and table-tennis. However, the sport is less rigorous as the court is smaller than a tennis court.

What do you need to play pickleball?

The first thing you need to play pickleball is a court. The sport can be played both indoor and outdoor on a badminton-sized court.

The next thing you need is a racquet. Pickleball is played with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes.

You also need a net and a proper apparel to play pickleball.

A pickleball court is the same size as a doubles badminton court and measures 20×44 feet. The net height is 36 inches at the sidelines and 34 inches in the middle. The court is striped similar to a tennis court with right and left service courts and a 7-foot non-volley zone in front of the net.

Rules of pickleball

Pickleball can be played as singles or doubles. The rules for both singles and doubles vary a little.

Must know rules of pickleball

  •   Uses underhand serve
  •   Both the serve and return of serve must bounce.
  •   Only the serving team can score points.
  • The serving team switches sides after each point won.
  • The server should call the score loudly before serve
  •   No volleys are allowed while making contact with the Non-Volley Zone.
  • Shots after the pickleball bounces are allowed in Non-Volley Zone.
  • If the pickleball hits you (Other than below your wrist), then you lose the rally.
