The principal architects of the Indian victory were the captain Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan, who scored fifties in double quick time against an Australian bowling attack that wasn’t at its best. Apart from the fiery start from Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top of the order, Rinku Singh was a key player for Team India in scrapping past the finishing line in the last over.

Earlier in the evening, the Indian bowlers got hit to all corners of the ground, mainly by Josh Inglis, who scored his first international hundred, an innings filled with 11 fours and eight maximums. He received support from the veteran opener Steve Smith, who scored a fifty of his own.
