The New Zealand vs Sri Lanka match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru will be a crucial game for New Zealand to qualify for the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023 as they failed to win their last match against Pakistan at the same venue due to unprecedented rain.
On 9th November, once again heavy rains have been predicted for New Zealand vs Sri Lanka, which will happen at the same venue (Bengaluru). In case the game ends without a result then both teams will get only one point in the table, thus New Zealand will end with only 9 points in the table.
If New Zealand doesn't manage to get a result in this game then two other games mentioned below will be very important for them to qualify for the semi-finals of ODI World Cup 2023.
- AFG vs SA at Ahmedabad
- PAK vs ENG at Kolkata
Now, if we look at the points table already three teams - India, South Africa, and Australia have qualified for the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023.
The other four sides Netherlands, England, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh can't reach 9 (or) more points in the table.
Currently, both Afghanistan and Pakistan have 8 points in the ODI WC 2023 table. Thus, if anyone in Afghanistan (or) Pakistan wins their final game then they will go to 10 points and knockout New Zealand from the tournament.
Thus, if NZ vs SL gets washed out then New Zealand should hope that both Afghanistan and Pakistan lose their last match of the tournament so that New Zealand can qualify for the semi-finals of World Cup 2023.
