Manchester City have had a terrific start to the 2022-23 Premier League season as they have won seven out of the nine games played with two draws. They are seated at the second position in the points table with 23 points. On the other hand, Liverpool have had a contrasting start as they have won only two out of their eight games with four draws and two losses.
The Reds are struggling to get going due to a mistake here and there by the defence. Now, they have the challenge of facing another team who are on a goal-scoring spree this season. Although they will be hosting Manchester City for their first meeting of the season, Jurgen Klopp’s team will be worried about the likes of Erling Haaland who has already scored 15 goals in nine games.
Although the Reds dominate the head-to-head record having won 21 out of 52 games played, Man City have had an upper hand lately. In fact, Liverpool are winless in their last five meeting with Manchester City having drawn three and lost two. However, what’s interesting is that they have never gone six without a win against Citizens in league history.
So, it is making up for a great contest with Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne also expecting his team to completely impose on Liverpool. City broke an 18-year hoodoo by winning away at Jurgen Klopp's side in 2021 and De Bruyne believes they can do it this time too. However, he is also expecting Liverpool to come fully prepared.
“The last few years we have done well. Maybe we have more control of the game,' De Bruyne said. "They are more of an up-and-down team and we are a team who has more control of the game. 'If you can control that style of play then maybe you have more of a chance. Last year I thought we played great but we didn't win. Sometimes it goes that way. 'I expect them to be the best Liverpool possible. Obviously, they lost some points but they are still Liverpool and I expect them to be good - that's the only way I see it.”
