Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has parted ways with the Premier League club. The decision comes after the Red Devils face a shocking 1-4 defeat against Watford at the Vicarage Road. Although there have been talks of Ole being removed as the manager for quite some time now, the defeat to Watford worked as the final nail in the coffin.

"Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision. While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success," the Red Devils said in an official statement.

The club also thanked the former United player for his efforts as the manager and wished him the best for the future. The club also confirmed that Michael Carrick, who happens to be their first-team coach, will be in charge of the team for the forthcoming matches as the club looks to name and appoint an interim boss who could oversee the team through to the end of the season.

The recent poor outings for United include a 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool on October 24 which was followed by a 2-0 defeat against Manchester City and while Solskjaer had suggested that things could change after the international break which was when the Watford shock came.

"His place in the club's history will always be secure, not just for his story as a player, but as a great man and a manager who gave us many great moments. He will forever be welcome back at Old Trafford as part of the Manchester United family," the club added in its statement, acknowledging that it was a difficult decision to arrive at.

The 48-year-old had replaced Jose Mourinho on an interim basis in December 2018 and has been with the club since then.

Following his departure, there have been all sorts of reactions pouring in on Twitter.
