The last three matches of the league stage of the T20 World Cup 2022 were played on Sunday. The six teams of Group 2 were in action on the day with South Africa facing the Netherlands, Pakistan taking on Bangladesh, and India locking horns with Zimbabwe. The day started with a massive upset as the Netherlands ousted South Africa, defeating the Proteas by 13 runs.
This win made the second game between Pakistan and Bangladesh a virtual quarterfinal, with the winner taking it all and entering the semifinals. Bangladesh started well and with the bat but Pakistan bowlers fought back as they restricted the Tigers to 127/8. The Babar Azam-led team then chased the total with ease turning their fortunes around in this tournament.
Meanwhile, India, who were already at the top of the points table with three wins in four games, qualified for the semifinals as South Africa were outdone by the Netherlands. So, the arch-rivals, India and Pakistan became the two teams from Group 2 to qualify for the semifinals. They join England and New Zealand in the knockout stage.
Here is a look at the points table after the match between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
India defeated Zimbabwe by 71 runs and topped the Group 2. They will now face England in the semifinals. Meanwhile, Pakistan will be pitted against Group 1 table-toppers New Zealand.
