As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season nears its halfway stage, the competition for places in the top four is starting to heat up. The IPL 2024 playoffs race is taking shape with the Rajasthan Royals pulling away from the rest of the competition in the top spot on the points table, but the battle for next three places on the standings could easily be anyone’s guess.

Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings are arguably the greatest team in the history of the IPL, and they have started their current title defence on a decent note with four wins in their first seven matches of the season. Although CSK haven’t been quite as consistent as some of the other top teams in the IPL 2024 season, they are well in the mix to end up making the playoffs once again.
Some of the top batters for Chennai Super Kings in ongoing IPL have been their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube, while the likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, and MS Dhoni have made vital contributions with the bat too. CSK are quite reliant on the likes of Matheesha Pathirana and Mustafizur Rahman, their two overseas recruits, with the ball, which is something they will have to improve upon, to ensure a place for them in the IPL 2024 playoffs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad have played some exceptional cricket in the first six matches of the IPL 2024 season, winning four of those, while their two losses have come in the last over. In the batting side of things, the likes of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Heinrich Klaasen have been insanely good for SRH, not only in terms of scoring big runs, but also doing it at a high tempo as well.
In the IPL 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad have already compiled the top two highest totals in the history of the tournament, with 287/3 coming at the expense of Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The bowling attack of SRH is spearheaded by the captain Pat Cummins, who has delivered quality spells to help them secure wins consistently in the tournament, which could eventually lead them to the playoffs of this season’s IPL.

Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders have won four of their first six matches in the IPL 2024, and their recent loss against Rajasthan Royals came on the last ball of the contest. Despite the couple of defeats, the nucleus of KKR side is quite strong, which would keep them in good stead right throughout, in terms of making the IPL 2024 playoffs.
Sunil Narine has been nothing short of extraordinary with the bat in the IPL 2024 after getting promoted to the top of the order, and his bowling has been up to the mark for Kolkata Knight Riders too. Some of the other players who have added great value to KKR are Angkrish Raghuvanshi, the captain Shreyas Iyer, Andre Russell, Harshit Rana, Vaibhav Arora, and Varun Chakravarthy, among others.

Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals are currently on top of the IPL 2024 points table with a four-point margin after winning the first six of their seven matches, looking like a step away from making the playoffs. The inaugural champions, RR have been the best team in the first half of the ongoing IPL, with their only defeat coming at the hands of Gujarat Titans on the last ball.
In the batting department, the likes of Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, and Riyan Parag are three of the top scorers for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024, who have been instrumental in the change of fortunes for the team after the debacle last season. The bowling attack has had the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, Trent Boult, Nandre Burger, and Avesh Khan, doing the majority of the work for the former IPL champions.
