In Tuesday's super six game between Scotland and Zimbabwe, unfortunately, Zimbabwe got eliminated after a 31-run loss to Scotland. Zimbabwe had six points in their first three games as they defeated Netherlands (Group Stage), West Indies (Group Stage), and Oman (Super Six) but, went on to lose their recent two matches against Sri Lanka and Scotland which has eliminated them from participating in the ODI WC 2023 which is set to be hosted by India after few months time.
Now, with Zimbabwe also getting eliminated alongside Oman and West Indies, only Scotland or Netherlands have a chance to qualify for ODI WC 2023 from the qualifiers stage along with Sri Lanka. Here in this article, we will look at which of these two teams can qualify for ODI WC 2023.
1. Scotland
Scotland have won 3 out of 4 games and currently, they stand at 6 points with one more game to be played against the Netherlands.- If Scotland win their next game then they directly qualify for ODI WC 2023 with 8 points in their kitty alongside Sri Lanka
- If Scotland loses to the Netherlands, still they have a chance to qualify based on the loss margin as they have a better net run rate than the Netherlands.
For the Netherlands to go past the net run rate of Scotland, they must win their next game by a margin of 33 runs (or) 38 balls to spare (approx.)
Thus, if Scotland loses by a lesser margin than mentioned above then still they qualify for ODI WC 2023 ahead of the Netherlands
2. Netherlands
The Netherlands have won 2 out of 4 games and currently, they stand at 4 points with one more game to be played against Scotland.- Now Netherlands can maximum reach six points by winning their last match of the super six stage in the WC 2023 qualifiers and be tied with Scotland and Zimbabwe in the table.
- If all three teams (Netherlands, Scotland, Zimbabwe) are tied with six points in the table then the team with better NRR will qualify
- For the Netherlands to go past the net run rate of Scotland they must beat them by a margin of 33 runs (or) 38 balls to be spared (approx.) so that they can qualify for ODI WC 2023 along with the Sri Lankan side.
